How to Dress Secrets - Use Clothes

It's easy, once you know some information. With just a little understanding of what's needed, you can learn how to dress and create a wardrobe that commands more respect, garners more attention, and leads to a higher salary.

Here's how:

1. Forget the Trends

Put down the celebrity fashion news, throw out the "must have" fashion list, and back away slowly. The fastest way to get confused, look silly and squander money is by trying to follow the latest trend. If you're not shaped like those starlets or have their lifestyle, you don't need their wardrobes.

2. Determine Your Body Shape

Your body shape determines which styles work best on you, not the latest trend. You won't look great in every style that's out there. No one does. Trying to force your big hips into a pencil skirt is like trying to grow pineapple in Alaska: it doesn't work. So stop forcing it. Determine your shape and THEN find the styles that suit you best.

3. Emphasize the Positive

Next, determine your best features. Have flowing hair, a long neck, or toned arms? How about a tiny waist, gorgeous legs, or nice feet? Figure out what you like best about yourself and then emphasize with your clothes. Have things you don't like? Camouflage them.

4. Evaluate Your Lifestyle

Are you a soccer mom…or statistician? Conductor…or computer geek? Lawyer…or llama farmer? Each occupation has different wardrobe requirements. Your closet should reflect your lifestyle, not some fashion "must have" list. If you have something to wear for every thing in your world, you're "good to go". Otherwise, you need to fill the holes.

5. Go "Old School

Nothing says smart and sophisticated like clean, classic silhouettes. A crisp white blouse, dark straight trousers, a classic trench, a wrap dress - find the silhouettes that work best for you, then mix and match them. Yes, you can throw in a cute pair of shoes or earrings once in a while, but don't build a wardrobe around trends. Classics are like the food pyramid, trends like junk food. Whichever you cater to will determine the health of your wardrobe.

Learning how to dress is easy once you know a few simple rules. The rewards are worth the effort. If you want to look slimmer, taller, more youthful, or wealthier, learn how to dress for your body shape and lifestyle and enjoy the respect, consideration, and income that goes with it.
